47 adorable cats sleeping in awkward positions
The Sunbathing Cat
I mean, how chill does this guy look? He’s got the perfect setup. Legs spread wide, laying in the groove of the roof, with the sun on his skin (fur) and his arms above his head. All he’s missing now is a beer in his paws.
This cat has got the awkward sleeping position nailed. Even the other cats are jealous. Just look at that black and white cat; staring off in the distance thinking ‘why can’t I be that cool?’
The Couch Surfer
Just look at those little legs! This cat is actually demonstrating one of the most common awkward sleeping positions for any cat – the Couch Surfer. Instead of making itself comfortable and curling up into itself, this cat has opted to fold its back into an incredibly unnatural form to sleep on the couch. Because why not?
This position is not only awkward, but it also reiterates the cat’s power over the human – who can no longer sit on the couch to watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones.
The Double Bed
To master The Double Bed sleeping position, you’ll need a fellow cat who won’t mind getting their head squished by a pair of furry legs. You might struggle to find a cat willing to endure this, though, so you might have to bend the truth a little – or you could just offer them a toasty and warm bed in return.
You’ll just conveniently forget to tell them that the second bed is actually yours as well. You know, because one huge bed just isn’t enough.
The Baby Position
People often say that pets imitate their owners. And, well, this cat seems to have gotten his owners a little bit confused. Nevertheless, (most) babies get a good night’s sleep, so why shouldn’t this cat get a good night’s sleep too?
For this position, you’ll need a slightly larger frame, and short little legs and arms to create the desired effect. Cats who adopt the Baby Position often have their own motto; find the baby, be the baby.
The Rough Night
Let’s be honest, we all know what we want after a rough night on the town – a good nap. However, when we’re a little worse for wear, we don’t really care where or how we get to sleep.
It could be propped up on the toilet, it could be on the kitchen floor, or it could be nestled in between a few radiator pipes. We know which one we’d go for, because this guy looks super comfortable. Although he might want to brush his fur in the morning.
The Book Worm
This is an awkward sleeping position we can definitely get behind. For this position, you’ll need a good stack of books of your choosing – you can grab some classics, some thrillers, some romantic comedies or even go non-fiction if you’re feeling extra wild.
Next, you need to adopt the worm position and lay on top of the books. Rumor has it you dream of the stories when you sleep in The Book Worm. We can’t confirm this though, so you’ll have to try it out for yourselves…
The Contortionist (Couch Edition)
Okay, so the aim of The Contortionist (Couch Edition) is simple – and can be executed by any cat of any age and any breed. All you need is a couch, and the ability to bend and twist your body in any way and direction.
You can twist however you like, but it’s best to keep your belly facing upwards – as this presents your humans with optimum scratching area. Sit back, (kinda) relax, and scratch away, hooomans.
The Head Rush
There’s one sure-fire way to make sure you get a good night’s sleep – and that’s The Head Rush sleeping position. Okay, yeah. It does make you pass out. But at least it makes you fall asleep, right?
No more tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. Just turn your head upside down and let it happen. DISCLAIMER: this doesn’t actually make a cat pass out. These things don’t apply to cats.
Big Spoon, Little Spoon
We all know that spooning is quite possibly the most comfortable sleeping position… if you’re the little spoon. The big spoon, however, gets a mouth full of cat fur and hairballs and stiff legs. And it’s not pretty.
These cats don’t seem to have mastered the relaxing spoon sleeping position though – mainly because they’re both pretty much the same size. Instead, the one at the back looks like he’s got the other one in a headlock. That can’t be comfortable.
No, this isn’t Pablo Escobar’s newest recruit (although that would be an incredibly epic addition to the TV show). The Narco-Cat sleeping position is extremely refined and it takes a special cat to perfect it.
This cat is the kind of cat that suffers from severe narcolepsy and will sleep anywhere, anytime. It might be mid-sentence. It might be mid-scratch. Or it might even be mid-walk. There’s just no way of knowing. It’s all natural, yo.
The Furry Pile of Fluff
The Furry Pile of Fluff. This sleeping position is quite possibly one of the best ones – if you can find a few friends to help you out. All you need is a couple of fluff balls to lie on top of each other to keep everyone snug.
Although if you get the chance, try and avoid bottom bunk – as you’ll be pretty toasty, but might wake up a little winded with all of your furry friends on top of you.
The Window Ledge
When it comes to The Window Ledge awkward sleeping position, there are no limits. If you see a Window Ledge, you go sleep there, gurl. You do you.
These ledges give cats the perfect mixture of support and softness – because there’s nothing better than letting it all hang out as it flows around cold, steel bars. Apparently. Unfortunately, the Window Ledge doesn’t come with its own pillow, so you’ll need to use your paws for that.
The key to mastering the Half-in, Half-out sleeping position is all in the tools. You need to get just the right box. It can’t be too small, otherwise your whole body will be sticking out the side.
And it can’t be too big because you want at least one leg and one paw to stick out. You do have standards, of course. Treat this one as a game, if your whole body fits snug as a bug in the box… you lose.
Be the Box
So, we’ve seen the Half-in, Half-out sleeping box position. This position is slightly more advanced, and for the cat who really wants to get a good night’s sleep, and a bit of back pain.
This position will also require more advanced box hunting skills, as you need to find the perfect size for your body. Because if you’re going to jam your whole body inside of it, it needs to be at least a little bit comfortable (even if it doesn’t look it).
The Sideward Dog
Downward facing dog is a very popular yoga position for humans who get their Yoga on- but cats like to take it one step further (because, obviously, they’re better than humans).
These guys seek out their favorite dog, and simply lay out next to it on their side. This way, the spine stretches, and the deep breathing sends them off into a deep sleep. They don’t get much Yoga done, but they get a darn good nap this way.
The Sleeping Dead
Let’s be honest, we all love The Walking Dead. Whether you’re a human or a cat, we can’t help but pretend we’re living in Post-Apocalyptic Georgia, scaring Rick and his friends (and a random tiger) with our zombie sleeping position.
Sure, it may look uncomfortable, but appearances can be deceiving. Just look at that stretch. Look at that back arch. Look at that head tilt. That’s the stuff you want from your cat nap. Pure bliss.
Hard at Work
Have you ever been at work and wondered how you could get away with having a little nap at your desk? Well, this cat has nailed the Hard at Work sleeping position.
Although it may look like this guy is hard at work and getting on with his Whisk(ers) Assessment, he’s actually catching a few Z’s on top of his computer. If the boss asks, just tell them you’re closing your eyes to really visualize the words.
The Clothes Dryer
The Clothes Dryer awkward sleeping position is all about imagination. Without it, you will have a substandard sleeping experience. And nobody wants that.
So, first you need to imagine that you are an item of clothing that has just been taken out of a washing machine. Next, you need to imagine that you’re soaking wet, and need to be hung out to dry. Then, you need to find yourself a clothes dryer and drape yourself over it accordingly. Et voila.
Gosh, those humans don’t half go on. Sometimes you just really need to escape somewhere where they won’t find you for a while. You won’t need to listen to their awful reality TV or smell their horrible food. You just need somewhere to hide.
This is where The Hidey-Hidey sleeping position comes into play. Find a little warm spot, and hide out until the madness all blows over. Although, don’t get caught like this guy.
If I Fits, I Sits
This is for the cat who doesn’t care where it sleeps; it just wants a few Z’s. The If I Fits, I Sits sleeping position is incredibly easy to master.
You simply need to find a space of any kind (the smaller, the better really) and squash your whole body into it, completely disregarding the fact that you have bones and that your body should definitely not bend that way, but for some reason it does. Because if you fit, you can sit. And if you can sit, you can sleep.
A Rose Between Two Thorns
For this awkward sleeping position, you’ll need two willing volunteers who play by the rules – because you don’t. The aim of this sleeping game is to be the odd one out because you’re weird and you like it that way.
You want the other cats to see how rebellious you are. Because you don’t follow the crowd. You don’t conform. You do what you want. You’re like the Miley Cyrus of the cat world. You’re a wrecking ball. Paws up if you’re the coolest?
A Box of Limbs
What is it with cats and boxes? We’ll never know, but they just seem to love them and will simply do anything to get inside of one – even if it means completely breaking your whole body.
For maximum effect, you’ll need someone to take apart your limbs like a jigsaw puzzle and put it back in completely the wrong way to ensure you can fit. Because this is definitely not right. P.S you can use any box you wish. This one isn’t fussy.
The Dog Bed
The Dog Bed is often commonly misinterpreted. No, dear furry friend – you’re not supposed to steal the actual dog’s bed. Instead, you use the dog as your bed. It’s warm, it’s squishy, it’s comfortable.
Of course, you first need to build up a certain relationship with said dog, as it’s best not to lay on it if you are currently in the midst of a pet war. Tread carefully with this one; it can be tricky to maneuver.
The Married Couple
The best thing about married life is that you can really be yourself in front of each other – and the Married Couple sleeping position really shows that off. You sleep how you want to sleep.
Sleep with your mouth open, dribble a little bit if you want – and snoring is totally okay. In fact, it’s frowned upon if you don’t snore. We think we’ve found our favorite. The best bit? You get to snuggle with your favorite cat at the same time.
The Intruder Alert
Are you worried about the safety of your humans? Are you aghast that their house has no alarm? What about cat-burglars? These humans just aren’t prepared.
Luckily, you can adopt The Intruder Alert sleeping position to make sure you can keep an eye on anyone outside who looks suspicious and ready to steal you and your family at any moment, but it also gives you the chance to get in a few hours of sleep at the same time. It’s called multitasking. Look it up, humans. You’re so welcome.
Snug in an Ugg
When it comes to buying a bed for your cat, you’ll never know what they want – and most of the time, you’ll just get it completely wrong. They don’t want to sleep in that. That’s probably why so many little kitty cats adopt this Snug in an Ugg sleeping position.
It’s small. It’s fluffy. It’s snug. And it’s warm. I mean, that’s all they ask of you really. Just give them a boot (not that kind of boot. Like a shoe boot), and they’ll be sleeping for hours.
The Modest Sleep
Just like us humans, cats don’t like to be exposed. How do you think they feel having their private areas on show for everyone to see everyday? Cats want to cover themselves up too, you know.
This is where The Modest Sleep sleeping position comes in, so make sure you have a few towels lying around the house so they can grab them they please. You could give them a massage too if you’re feeling generous.
For this awkward sleeping position, you’ll need a willing human who will happily provide you with comfort, warmth, and the ability to scratch your belly. However, finding the right human can be difficult – so it’s probably best to try them all out and eliminate the rubbish ones.
Once you’ve found the perfect lap, you’ll have hours of sleepy time. Stretch out, take over all of the lap space, make the human incredibly uncomfortable, and enjoy.
When someone is in a really deep sleep, they tend to have quite funny faces: mouth open, tongue out, etc. This can be the same thing with our furry friends, too. They have been known to also snore when they fall into a deep sleep.
This kitty here seems to have completely passed out and actually looks a little vicious with their teeth out, but we’re sure its a perfectly nice lil cat. Sleep tight, little one.
High five, dude
The best thing about pets is teaching them to do tricks. Many people have taught their cats and dogs to shake hands and plenty of other various tricks. Others have made their animals learn how to give high fives.
It would seem like this cat has taken his studies so seriously, it has even begun giving high fives while taking naps. We would love nothing more than to give that tiny paw a quick high five.
Sleeping while standing
Sometimes we get tired; it happens. Have you ever fallen asleep while standing up, though? It’s been a long day at work and you’re finally on the subway heading home and you doze off just a bit, only to be woken up by the feeling of falling and jump back into consciousness.
Well, sometimes cats also fall asleep before they can make it to a comfortable place to lie down and take a nap, just like this furry one.
Say what you want about cats, but they love cuddling just as much as any dog – well some of them anyway, others will try to scratch or bite you as you attempt to cuddle with them.
Sometimes, however, there are adorable moments like this one where you can catch two of the cutest little buddies ever snuggling up for a quick cuddle session. It really doesn’t get too much better than this adorableness, does it?
Dangling over the edge
How many times have you told your pet cat not to jump on the table? A million times? Us too. Regardless, if you have a cat, you know that they pretty much take it upon themselves to roam freely around the house as if they own the place.
This cat was clearly trying to go from the couch to the table and must’ve gotten tired on the way, so they decided to stop for a little break.
Don’t look at me
For anyone who has seen Mean Girls, there’s a good chance remember when Damian says “don’t look at me” as he begins his iconic performance of Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful. Well, it looks like this cat is channeling its inner Damian and telling the world “don’t look at me” as it takes a quick little cat nap.
Many cat owners will notice their pets doing this, and perhaps it’s a way of blocking the light from their eyes while they sleep. Regardless, how adorable!
Cats like to sit on the backs of couches; this is a commonly known characteristic about them. That being said, we don’t think we’ve ever seen a cat lie down like this on a couch and just pass out on its back.
This little couch potato looks so comfy that it almost makes us want to try this position the next time we are in need of a nap. He also almost blends in with the sofa, so maybe he was just hiding from an annoying owner.
Any zombie or monster fans will know how these undead creatures walk. They stick their arms out, parallel to the ground and drag their feet as they move.
Perhaps this cat has watched the Thriller video a few too many times because it almost looks like they’re imitating the infamous zombie walk. Either way, we’re not sure what is preventing the animal from falling off the edge here, but this looks like a great ab workout!
Just like humans, cats tend to move around a lot in their sleep, switching positions many times throughout their slumber. Often times, they will stretch their body out like superman on a mission.
Unlike cats, humans usually tend to stretch in the morning when they wake up, as opposed to while they are asleep. Cats, on the other hand, they can stretch all day every day, including while they are sleeping. This little dude is reaching out for something as he snores away.
What, you’re working?
Any student or person who works from home will understand what it’s like trying to accomplish anything with a cat around. They simply do not like the idea of you doing work while they want to play, or be pet, or just be given attention.
In their minds, they are always the most important one in the room. Because of this, they really don’t care if they lie down on top of all your hard work and prevent you from actually getting anything done.
Cats are liquid
On the internet, there’s a very popular theory regarding our feline friends’ state of matter. According to this theory, cats aren’t solid; they’re actually liquid. Let’s look into this information, shall we? What is a liquid? It’s a fluid that takes the shape of its container while retaining a constant volume.
Now, let’s examine the photo of this white kitty sleeping inside a transparent bowl. Taking the shape of the container? Check. Retaining a constant volume? Check. So it is proven – cats are liquid. This, friends, is called science.
Who needs to breathe, anyways?
Cats are known for defying everything we know about physics, but did you know that they can also challenge biology? It seems like this little fella had a tough day at work, and once he got home, he just wanted to lie down and burry his face on his bed.
If any of us tried to do that, we would have to come up for air in a matter of seconds, but then again, we’re (unfortunately) not cats.
Rocking that air guitar
Did you know that air guitar is a very serious form of entertainment (for some people)? All over the world, there are air guitar competitions where participants are judged based on things like stage presence, technical merit, mimesmanship, and airness – yes, apparently that’s a word.
No competitor can hold a handle to this sleepy air guitarist, though. Look at that form! That charisma! Those cute little pointy years and the tiny white mittens… Ok, we got distracted.
‘Worship me, human’
Cats used to be worshipped in ancient Egypt, and they never forgot this. It’s very obvious that they crave attention and they love to be admired, even if some of them don’t like to be touched. You can still pet them with your eyes, though!
This kitty knows how cute it is, and it wants its human to know that too. So they’re sleeping on top of a glass table to show how they’re adorable even from this weird angle. It just wants to be worshipped from every side.
The tiniest studio apartment
The real estate market is really crazy these days, and it’s almost impossible to find an apartment for a reasonable price, especially if you live in a crowded city. Even the smallest studio apartments will cost a fortune, and you’ll usually have to share it with a roommate.
This is the living arrangement that these kittens seem to have – their eating place is the same as their sleeping place, and they have little to no privacy due to their roommate always being right there.
‘I’m a cat and I’ll do whatever I want’
Raise your hand if you’ve ever bought something incredibly cool looking and expensive for your cat, only for them to completely ignore the present – or, at the most, be more entertained by its packaging than by the product itself.
Yep, most cat owners have been there. We’re sure the cat on the photo did the same to its humans. There are probably half a dozen warm, comfy, bespoke kitty beds spread around the house, and it chose to sleep on the staircase handrail instead.
Man’s best friend
The real world will tell you that dogs are man’s best friend, but this is not the real world. This is the internet, and in here, cats rule all. There’s no room for dogs in the cat empire, and as we can see in this picture, the position of man’s best friends is already taken – by a cat, of course.
Mittens here is the best buddy this human could possibly wish for. They couldn’t look more calm or serene, belly up for their afternoon nap on the couch.
The Full Situp
Yep, some cats really do sleep like this. And yep, it does look super uncomfortable (but also kinda adorable, because this little kitty is so teeny and tiny).
The Full Situp sleeping position is normally the result of a cat aiming to be the next bodybuilder with a full 8-pack – because 6-packs are for amateurs. However, this cat soon realized it was better off being Homer Simpson and decided to have a cat nap instead.
Into the Frying Pan
Ahhhh, yes. The sensual, relaxing Into the Frying Pan sleeping position; that old chestnut. Sometimes cats really do defy the laws of physics, and we reckon they have a few sneaky super powers up their sleeves (you know, if cats have sleeves. We’ll never know). Like this one.
This cat obviously has the power to turn itself into a liquid and pretend it’s an omelet. Because that is the only reasonable explanation for this awkward sleeping position.
A box or a cat?
At first you may think that your mom just bought you a fur scarf. But believe it or not this is actually a cat. This cat is sleeping soundly in the cardboard box and you can’t even see its face!
Not only that, but it’s taking the shape of the box while sleeping. That takes a lot of talent. How many people do you know that are so flexible they can fit themselves into a box?
Honestly, this cat doesn’t even seem real. It looks so fluffy and perfect it could be one of those wind up toy cats that move. But no— it’s actually a real cat.
A cat that decided to resemble a ball just before it fell asleep. To master The Ball position, you need to be quite flexible, and this cat totally has the skills. And with its cute face to go with it, this kitty nailed it!
Found in the kitchen
Have you ever lost your cat in the house? Maybe you looked in its usually places like the couch or the cozy blanket you bought for it. Well, it could really be anywhere, and sometimes you might even find it laying in your kitchen!
We can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to sleep between the kitchen table and the kitchen counter, with your legs hanging in mid air. How do you even fall asleep like that?
Can someone please explain what exactly is happening here? How is this cat be sleeping like this? We think that there is only one explanation— this kitty must be doing some yoga in its sleep. Both legs are up and the arms are spread out pretty widely.
This is one of the most awkward sleeping positions we’ve seen, but before we judge, this kitten might be one of the more talented ones out there.
What could possibly be cuter than a cat curled up and sleeping? We’ll tell you— a cat curled up and sleeping on top of a dog! Both the dog and the cat are in the same exactly position and they look like they’re sleeping so peacefully.
We’re not sure how the cat managed not to wake up the sleeping dog. While it’s hard to believe that they’re sleeping comfortably (especially the dog), these two look absolutely adorable!
No pictures please
While these cats can’t possibly know what they’re doing when they fall asleep, this cat looks like it’s trying to tell us something. It seems like it’s saying— don’t take any photos of me please! With its paws in front of its face, this cat truly means business.
It’s laying on fancy satin sheets, bending awkwardly to the side, and its toes are pressed together in the most adorable way possible. We’re definitely glad someone took this photo.
Nobody knows how to be more chill than this cat. Its arms are casually by its sides and its legs are crossed. On one hand this cat looks super cool, but on the other hand, who wants to sleep this way?
If we were to cross out legs like that when we fall asleep it won’t be comfortable for sure! And the way its head is off to one side— we just hope this cat doesn’t wake up with any neck problems.
DVDs for good use
Let’s be real for a minute. How often do you actually rifle through your old DVD collection? Probably never. Well, this cat decided to put its owner’s old collection to good use. Curling up in between two DVDs seems like the way to go.
With its tale wrapped around a bunch of DVD cases, this cat could not be happier. The space looks a bit tight, we’re proud of this kitty for finding what looks like a cozy spot.
Tried so hard
What’s the deal with cats sleeping with parts of their bodies hanging in the air? Sometimes we get so tired that we fall asleep without paying attention the sleeping position. This cat clearly does not care what anyone thinks.
From what it looks like, the cat was trying to climb the chair and got so tired from trying that it collapsed on top of a newspaper. And it must have been so exhausted that its leg is half off and its tail is draped around the banister.
Is this cat sleeping or is it completing a gymnastics routine for the cat olympics? Gymnastic routines include leaning back on poles, flips, and a lot of stamina. This cat looks like it may be capable of doing everything on that list.
But since it’s actually sleeping, this is a pretty awkward position to stay in. Who wants to sleep with their head leaned back and hanging in the air? That’s got to be uncomfortable.
Would you even consider taking a nap in a gutter? That sounds like a miserable experience, but after seeing this picture you may want to change your mind. There’s no way that you don’t find this cat adorable.
It’s squished into a gutter and it’s body is conforming to the space. The cat spread its body out very widely to the point where it looks less like a cat and more like a furry scarf!
Too cool for the holidays
Christmas may be coming, but this cat could not be less interested. Its body is lying in front of the fireplace, with his legs up on the edge. The hands are almost folded at its chest as if to say that it doesn’t care about anything.
With Christmas decorations in the background, this cat has plenty to play with, but right now it would rather take a break from all the holiday drama. And we can totally relate to that.
Kitten on the go
What’s the easiest way to take a small cat on the go with you? While we know that most kittens don’t fit in the tiniest places, for the ones that do, here’s an easy idea— put your kitten in your pocket!
The owner in this picture knows what he’s doing, and put his tiny kitten in his shirt pocket when he got tired of holding it in his hands. This kitty doesn’t have a place to put its head and looks adorable sleeping this way.
The Munchkin mummy
Cats sleeping on their backs like a mummy is fairly common, though it never ceases to amuse us. As a Munchkin cat, Chata may not “stand” above the rest, but he’s been a social media sensation from the moment he was introduced on his owner’s social media account.
In this photo, he’s around two months of age, so he still has quite a bit of growing up to do. However, his legs will stay relatively short, so he’ll always have that cute, stuffed animal appearance.
Honestly, there’s no end to the nooks and crannies that kittens maneuver themselves into, but the opening of a tissue box is a new one for us. This cozy feline also has its face down – another behavior that leaves owners scratching their heads.
Cats do this for a number of reasons, including keeping their nose warm and blocking the light from their eyes. Regardless of the reason, it’s too adorable to not snap a pic!
For advanced yogis only
Seriously, they need to start saying “downward cat” instead of “downward dog.” For the average human, this pose may take weeks, even months, to achieve. If you’re a cat, on the other hand, it’s just another Tuesday.
Cats do this for a number of reasons, including keeping their nose warm and blocking the light from their eyes. Regardless of the reason, it’s too adorable to not snap a pic!
The Klassy Kitty
We notice an empty food bowl and one of those fishing pole toys that no cat can resist. In short, this cat has just experienced two of the most important things in its life, and man, was it tiring!
Now it’s time for a snooze, but why walk all the way over to the bed or couch? Just sprawl out on your back, stretch out your legs, and bask in the knowledge that everyone else will walk around you.
Double the cat, double the laughs
Have you ever noticed that cats seem to double in length when they’re fully relaxed? Take this cat, for example. It’s clearly far away in slumberland, enjoying one of its many well-deserved naps.
But the way its legs stretch out and drape over the couch makes it look like someone took a can of liquid cat, and poured it onto the seat. Honestly, we can talk all day about the stretching abilities of cats, but maybe it’s best to let sleeping cats lie.
The glass table
We’re not sure who was the first person to pick up this trend, but cats look pretty hilarious from the other side of a glass table. However, this cat is the perfect combination of funny and achingly adorable, thanks to its folded ears.
This is normal among Scottish Folds, as well as the rounded body, which has the overall effect of making this cat look more like a Pokémon. Looks like Mewtwo has some stiff competition!
Always look up
Yikes, it’s a good thing this person remembered to look up before closing the door. That’s the thing with cats, though. There’s literally nowhere they can’t fall asleep, including a surface that’s probably no more than two inches wide.
But there’s an even bigger question that we’d love the answer to: how in the world did this cat get up there in the first place without falling off? As much as we love cats, sometimes they scare us.
Kitty in the Korner
Isn’t that typical? You spend good money getting your cat a plush, expensive cat bed, and what do they do? Only use half the space, of course! Not to mention, the position looks totally uncomfortable, with the cat’s head scrunched into its neck, while its legs are twisting in the opposite direction.
On the plus side, the cat is actually using the bed, instead of ignoring it and going straight to that shoe box you’ve been trying to throw away for a month.
We’ll make it work
This is a tight fit, to say the least. While most cats relish their own space, these two have been inseparable since their owner adopted them as kittens. From the very beginning, they insisted on sleeping together in the top level of their cat condo.
As they grew, their sleeping nook didn’t grow with them, but they refused to be parted. Their touching story, as well as their humorous sleeping positions, continue to delight netizens all over the world.
Odd cat out
Aww, group hugs have never been cuter! Though we have to admit, group hugs can be really awkward when they’re just sprung on us by people we’re not particularly keen on hugging. That seems to be what happened to this poor cat in the middle.
While the others are smiling in purrfect contentment (sorry, we couldn’t resist), the expression on the middle guy’s face is a silent scream for help. Let’s hope someone comes soon to break up this moment of feline solidarity.
The cat donut
Can you guess what this is? No, it’s not a couch cushion…nor is it the world’s largest powdered sugar donut. It’s just a good ol’ fashioned kitty cat doing what they do best: showing off how flexible they are.
As weird as it looks, this sleeping position allows the cat to keep its nose warm, while blocking out the light from its eyes. Of course, putting its paws over its face would also work, but that’s for amateurs.
May we pour you some cat?
Are you still not sold on the idea that cats are liquid? Then take a look at this cream-colored feline, who has clearly taken on the shape of its container, while experiencing little to no change in its volume.
From a distance, it would be hard to tell this is a cat at all, since you can barely see where the creature begins and ends. Well, that should be enough to prove the cats are liquid theory once and for all.
A very long day
You know, it’s hard out there for a cat. There’s birds to chase, dogs to outwit, and garbage cans to raid – maybe even a pesky child who doesn’t understand you don’t want to be picked up. And that’s on a good day!
Clearly, the day’s work has been rougher than usual for this cat, who couldn’t be bothered to walk over to its bed. Just find a corner that’ll prop you up, close your eyes, and let nature take its course.
The guilty party
Oh, the innocence of a kitten. On the one hard, they’re tiny, helpless creatures who look at you with those huge, Bambie eyes. On the other hand, they live to destroy everything in their path, from a roll of paper towels to that all-important term paper you’re supposed to hand in first thing in the morning.
You want to get mad, but it’s impossible when the perpetrator is this adorable. It may not be a master criminal, but this kitten’s definitely stolen our hearts.
Planting some kittens
Cats sometimes go into people’s gardens to sleep on the warm, soft soil. But sleeping in a flower pot? Now, that’s something you don’t see every day. In truth, kittens need and enjoy the warmth of an enclosed space, especially when they can snuggle up with a buddy.
Unfortunately, their efforts to get comfortable seems to have damaged the seedling inside the pot. Suffice it to say, this is only something you can get away when you’re small, cute, and fuzzy.
Today’s special is…
I guess this cat’s heard of the old saying, “Out of the fire and into the frying pan.” Thankfully the stove was turned off when the cat decided to settle down for a nap. However, we’re assuming the pan had been placed there because the owner wanted to make something to eat.
But waking your cat out of a sound sleep just seems so cruel when they look so cozy. Oh well, that’s what milk and cereal are for, right?
Recharging his batteries
Like any sensible creatures, most cats want to sleep where it’s warm and dry. That’s why owners constantly find their cats draped over radiators, on top of the refrigerator, or anywhere else where they can stay warm and cozy.
However, a tiny kitten like this is generally restricted to whatever’s on the ground. Oh, but wait – here’s a perfect little heating pad for him to warm his paws on. Now that’s a considerate owner, don’t you think?
Hope for humanity
What’s awkward here are not the sleeping positions. Rather it’s the fact that these two animals are sleeping side by side, when a can’t natural instinct is to do something entirely different to that rabbit.
We assume the cat has known the rabbit since it was a kitten, which is a good start for a lifelong friendship between two different species. While it’s unusual, we can’t help but be inspired by these two furry pals, who have stayed together against all odds.
The rub down
It may not be the most dignified position, but this is one smart cat to demand non-stop belly rubbing until it falls asleep. As for that human that’s probably tired, or has a bunch of other things they need to get done?
Hmm, this cat would love to help, but first, it needs to know what the problem is. Right now, the only dilemma facing this feline is whether it’s getting kibble or wet for the evening meal.
The big baby
As you know, our pets can sometimes feel jealous when a baby is brought into the household. During this transition, they may act out, or engage in abnormal behaviors as a way to get your attention.
Well, there’s no question what this cat is saying: I’m the baby of this house, and don’t you forget it! What really gets us is the outspread arms and shameless grin on its face, as if it’s saying “Mine, all mine!”
Show ‘em your tough
The life of a stray cat is undoubtedly tough, compared to the cozy, pampered existence of their indoor cousins. And it can be hard to find good sleeping spots out there, especially if the weather turns bad.
Maybe it’s not as comfortable as a couch, but it’ll do it if you’re tired enough. Still, it is puzzling why the cat would choose this rather precarious setup to snooze on, when there’s clearly an empty chair right across the street.
Some unexpected visitors
Well, this goes to show you why you shouldn’t leave your bags unattended. Of course, what’s really amazing here is the incredible flexibility these cats have to have in order to fit so perfectly into these bags.
The cat on the left, for example, is doing a forward fold so advanced, its feet are actually going past its head. Instead of kicking these cats out, the owner of the bags may be better off giving them a place to stay in exchange for yoga lessons.
A furrytail ending
Would you like to hear a fairytale? Long, long ago, a fluffy tuxedo cat named Sophie was living in neglect with many other cats. One day, she was rescued by a loving couple who built her a beautiful cat-size bed, with her own custom sheets and blankets.
And she slept happily ever after! Lucky for us, this is a real story. As for Sophie, she’s become a social media star with legions of fans who can’t get enough of her sleeping photos.
We won’t tell if you won’t
If you’re a Garfield fan, this should immediately bring to mind the relationship between Garfield and Nermal, aka “the world’s cutest kitten.” Just imagine the poor little guy waking up, and discovering that his entire world is upside down!
And just how did he end up in this completely hilarious, yet inexplicable position? Hmm, we have a feeling the answer may be slightly to the right. It’s alright, big guy, we won’t tell – as long as you promise not to mail him to Abu Dhabi.
Never come between a cat and its box
It’s a familiar tale: cat sees box, cat goes inside box, human wants to get rid of box, cat ignores human, as usual. Well, this human has attempted to outsmart their cat by flipping a small box over and placing it inside the bigger box.
Closed for business, right? Only if it were that easy. We figure it won’t be long before this human sighs in defeat, and puts those boxes back where they were before.
Showing off cause they can
This is either a Salvador Dali painting, or even more evidence that cats are made of liquid. Well, we can assure you it’s not a Dali painting, though it seems surreal that a spine can actually bend this far.
It’s all due to the elastic cushioning discs in a cat’s spine, which allows the cat to rotate its body a full 180 degrees. Our spines will never rotate past 90 degrees, which may be the real reason why cats feel they’re superior to us.
A rail-ey awkward position
All cats are rebels, but some are clearly more extreme than others. Most cats, for example, prefer sleeping on something soft, or something solid and enclosed, like a box. This cat, however, likes to live on the wild side.
We bet you that under those railings is a perfectly comfortable bed or chair. You know, a good place to sleep. But this cat has to do things the hard way by wrapping himself around the wooden railings.
Totally worth it
Nothing worth having is without sacrifice, which is why cat owners accept that nothing they own will be free of cat hair. And if you buy anything expensive, like limited-edition grey suede Adidas shoes, be prepared to accept that it won’t stay “new” for long.
Fortunately, cats outgrow this habit by default when they can no longer fit into your shoes. So make sure to snap away whenever you see something like this. It won’t seem like it in the moment, but you will actually miss this someday.
The claw-set organizer
Let’s face it, most of us don’t have the ideal closet space for organizing our clothes. After awhile, everything just goes wherever it fits, and making things neat and orderly seems too overwhelming. Then, there are the people whose cats do this.
We assume this is a vicious cycle of sorts where the human waits for the cat to leave, but gets distracted with something else. By the time they come back, the cat is sleeping again, and the cycle repeats itself.
That was a close one
If this cat had its eyes closed and the lighting was dim enough, you may have missed it altogether. In that case, turning on the sink would be a really bad move for both you and the cat. After all the evidence we’ve presented, you already know this cat is exactly where it’s supposed to be.
And sleeping in the sink is preferable to other activities your cat could be doing, like knocking everything off the counter or tearing up the toilet paper.
No shame in its game
As you know, cats live to squeeze themselves into any available space. Unlike humans, there’s absolutely no shame in being too big for a seat. The only shame is foregoing the opportunity to turn an object into your new sleep space.
Still, we are a bit worried about this cat leaning over just a bit too far to the right or left. Still, if anyone can tumble out of a basket with grace, it’s definitely a cat.
Time for a bathroom break
We’ve talked about cats sleeping in the bathroom sink, but there is another cool, smooth area that may appeal to our feline friends. Ah yes, that magical place where curved porcelain meets hard, square tiles – that’s the perfect place for rest and rejuvenation.
Yeah, we’re not sold on it either, but maybe this is the only place where the cat can get some privacy. After all, isn’t that how it works for a lot of humans?
An even exchange
Once again, here we see two species of animals that are not supposed to get along. Yet, here is a cat, clearly dozing off on top of its best friend. Over the years, cats have discovered the joys of using large dogs as beds, but most dogs insist on the misconception that they’re the superior species.
However, this relationship isn’t as unfair as it sounds. In exchange for serving as a bed, the dog gets its very own custom-made cat hat.
Sleeping on the job
Aww, now here’s a paper jam that we wouldn’t mind seeing. Besides, this cat is being super considerate when you think about it. As you can see, the cat has positioned itself so that it’s not obstructing the paper tray.
In actuality, the only thing this kitty’s probably thinking about is how nice his backside will feel once the printer warms up. The point is, you can still get work done – unless you need to make copies, that is.
They are not obsolete
Speaking of getting work done, we’re assuming that won’t be happening here. In previous generations, cats got in the way by sitting on newspapers, sleeping on important piles of papers, and knocking pens off the desk.
With the advent of the digital age, there’s not much left for them to do, besides sprawl out on our computers and go to sleep. While technological advances have changed the role of cats in the workplace, it’s good to know there’s still a place for them.
Too tired to care
There’s so much for a kitten to learn in the first few months. Memorizing the layout of the house, adjusting to solid food, and of course, toilet training.
For some kittens, using the litter box comes naturally, but others struggle to climb into that huge tray and do their business in a discreet and dignified manner. It looks like this kitten is tuckered out from all the effort. Don’t worry, little guy, you’ll get the hang of it soon enough!
All boxes must be filled
If you’re an experienced cat owner, you’re prepared for just about anything, including finding your cat in a kitchen drawer. Even more enticing, this drawer has a small, empty box that’s just begging for a cat to fill it.
Why not, since the box looks pretty beat up based on the pieces that are torn off at the top. Of course, there’s a pretty good chance the perpetrator of that damage is sitting right in front of you.
A purr diem worker
Oh, look – another cat who wants to help out while you’re working from home. Surely, Fluffy here can be trusted with all those reports you’ve been meaning to file. That might work well in the Land of Imagination, but in the real world, this is exactly what’ll happen once you open that file drawer.
Then again, at least Fluffy isn’t draped over your keyboard while using your mouse as a pillow. See that? It is so unfair how people keep saying cats don’t care.
Still cute as ever
Don’t you love it when people take pictures of you while you’re sleeping, then make it a point to show you how hideous you look? Maybe we should take a lesson from this cat, who’s totally unbothered by the inconsiderate actions of its owner.
After all, when you’re a cat, everything you do is cute so there’s really nothing to lose. But if you do want revenge, there’s that nice new couch that’s ripe for the shredding.
Man-made cat bed
The cat sleeping on the dog’s head was impressive enough, but these kittens are the clear winners in using others to do their bidding. We’re not sure how long this man’s been asleep, but we hope he doesn’t need to change position any time soon.
As you know, once a cat decides to use you as a bed, you’re not going anywhere until the cat’s good and ready! Of course, if you have to be ruled by a bunch of masters, you’d be lucky to end up with these three cuties.
