Would you believe that some famous celebrities who you thought had passed away or had been in retirement are still very much alive and working? The Golden Age of Hollywood is deemed as such because it produced the best actors and actresses that the film industry has ever had.
What is amazing is that some of these living legends, even at their advanced age, are still very much strong, energetic, and beautiful as ever, many choosing to age gracefully and naturally. Are you ready for a blast from the past? Here are what your favorite yesteryear stars are up to these days…
SAM ELLIOTT, 75 YEARS OLD
It’s no surprise that actor Sam Elliott was often cast as a cowboy or rancher in films, because of the vibe and the famous southern drawl he has. Some of the notable films he starred in were Gettysburg, Roadhouse, and Tombstone. Perhaps the most memorable one, though, was his first film role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Because, no matter how small his role was, it’s where he first caught glimpse of his future wife, actress Katharine Ross. The two have been married since 1984, and are happily living now at their ranch in Malibu, that Elliott leaves behind whenever he has acting gigs.
ANN-MARGRET, 79 YEARS OLD
Ann-Margret’s rise to fame was not only because of great acting chops but also because of her beautiful voice. She has won many awards, recorded songs, and starred in well-known movies like Viva Las Vegas and Bye Bye Birdie.
Retirement is no problem for the gorgeous actress because she has amassed millions and currently owns around $20 million. Besides the mentioned movies, Ann-Margaret was in The Cincinnati Kid, The Train Robbers. Grumpy Old Men and the sequel, and others. SOPHIA LOREN, 85 YEARS OLD
Sophia Loren may be an actress who hails from Italy, but it’s in America, specifically in Hollywood where she became an icon of the industry. She made history in the Oscars in 1961 when she became the first artist to win an academy award with a foreign language film.
She won as best actress for the Italian film, Two Women. Loren has a reported net worth of $75 million today and she is still active in the biz, since 1950. She was most recently seen in 2016, in a documentary called Sophia Loren: Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival, and she will appear in The Life Ahead, in 2020.
ANGIE DICKINSON – 88 YEARS OLD
Angie Dickinson is an actress whose long career began in 1954, firstly on TV. She began regularly appearing on the variety show, The Colgate Comedy Hour, in 1953. Angie then went on to act in shows like Death Valley Days, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, and more.
She successfully transitioned to movies in 1959, starring in Rio Bravo, and a year later Angie was cast in Ocean’s 11 where she played Frank Sinatra’s wife. They would become lifelong friends and was even rumored to have an affair with him at some point. She had a daughter with Burt Bacharach, her second husband, named Nikki, who died in 2007. Angie retired from acting in 2009.
TONY BENNETT, 93 YEARS OLD
At 93 years old, famous crooner Tony Bennett can still sing his famous hits with his trademark beautiful voice. He has been famous in the 1950s, and he is still doing shows now, so it’s not a surprise that he owns a $200M fortune today.
Tony began his career in the music biz in the ’40s, while he is also a painter. His hits like Rags to Riches and Because of You broke the charts in the ’50s, and he has since recorded seventy albums, all with commercial success. His most recent album with Diana Krall in 2018, titled Love Is Here to Stay, was #1 US Jazz album that year.
CATHERINE BACH, 66 YEARS OLD
Did you know that Catherine Bach got the part of Daisy Duke on the spot, the day she auditioned for the part? Bach went even though she was told the people behind the Dukes of Hazzard TV show were looking for a Dolly Parton lookalike. Despite not meeting the requirements, her personality and charm, plus her killer body won her the iconic part.
Bach is now 66 and is still active since 1974. Her recent roles were in 2015, in The Breakup Girl and Book of Fire, while she was also in a TV movie titled My Best Friend in 2016. Catherine was married two times and has two kids.
ED O’NEILL, 74 YEARS OLD
Actor Ed O’Neill is one familiar face for TV fans. Aside from his very famous and still running award-winning comedy show Modern Family, where he plays Jay Pritchett, he also starred as Al Bundy in the beloved TV show Married… with Children for 10 years.
At 72, Pritchett is still very active in the industry, appearing in several films and TV shows, including the ever-popular Modern Family, which was renewed in 2017. Ed also had voice roles in the Wreck It Ralph animated movie series and is also heard in Finding Dory.
PRISCILLA PRESLEY, 74 YEARS OLD
Priscilla Presley was an ordinary young teenager when she met the King of Rock, the late Elvis Presley. They got married in 1967, had a daughter named Lisa Marie, but eventually divorced in 1973. Priscilla went on to then pursue an acting career and dabbled in a few businesses.
When Elvis died in 1977, the inheritance he’d left to Lisa Marie was only $1 million, and it was because of Priscilla’s successful handling of Elvis Presley Enterprises that transformed it into a $100 million fortune, which took care of their daughter Lisa.
JOANNE WOODWARD, 90 YEARS OLD
Joanne Woodward’s 60-year film career is something to be awed by. In all her years being an actress she has won an Oscar, three Golden Globe Awards, one BAFTA, and three Emmy Awards, never mind the countless nominations. Starting her career in TV shows, she starred in many serials before she signed a contract with 20th Century Fox, thereby getting more film parts.
In one of her earlier movie roles, in The Long, Hot Summer, Joanne co-starred with actor Paul Newman and they would eventually fall in love and tie the knot the next year in 1958. The couple has starred in plenty of movies together, even as they expanded their family with 3 kids. Their marriage was full of love and ended only with Paul’s death in 2008.
NORMAN LLOYD, 105 YEARS OLD
Norman Lloyd is an actor in Hollywood that is considered to be a living legend. With his age, he has witnessed a lot of historic moments and has worked with other iconic figures in Hollywood. He is not just an actor, but also a director and producer.
His career is running on eight decades, and Lloyd has worked with legends like Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock and was friends with Charlie Chaplin. People may think at 105 the actor is already in retirement, but they are completely wrong because Lloyd currently stars in the television show Fly.
JULIE ANDREWS, 84 YEARS OLD
Beloved actress and singer Julie Andres is 84 years old, and she’s as beautiful today as she was when she was much younger. Her most famous movies to date are The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, but the actress is still active at this stage of her career.
Her latest movie was Despicable Me 3 where she voiced the character of Gru’s mother, and she was seen in Aquaman in 2018. However, Julie also has a wildly successful singing career and has narrated many movies to date. GLADYS KNIGHT, 75 YEARS OLD
Gladys, or the “Empress of Soul”, is a singer-songwriter and actress who has a whopping 7 Grammy Awards and ruled the 60s, 70s and 80s with her band Gladys Knight & the Pips, that included her brother and cousins.
You would recognize her melodious voice when listening to the hits That’s What Friends Are For, Midnight Train to Georgia, and the theme song for the James Bond movie, Licence to Kill. With the Rolling Stone listing her in their 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, it was only a matter of time that Knight was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a year later, in 1997, into the Rock and Roll of Fame.
KELSEY GRAMMER, 65 YEARS OLD
Kelsey Grammer achieved fame when he played the role of Dr. Frasier Crane in the hit NBC show Frasier. He portrayed this character for two decades and it landed him three Golden Globe and five Emmy wins. Unlike most comedians, Grammer did not begin his career doing stand-up, but rather, on a theatre stage.
He attended Juilliard and learned a lot during his three-year internship with San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre. After Frasier ended, the actor focused on making films, and taking up voice-over projects, just like in the documentary Best of Enemies. In 2008, the actor had to deal with some serious health issues as he suffered a heart attack that almost claimed his life.
BETTY WHITE, 98 YEARS OLD
Beloved actress Betty White’s career began through small radio jobs in the 1940s because of movie studio executives thought she was not photogenic enough. Although hardly believable, that story is true.
Now, White holds the record for the longest-running career of a female entertainer on television, and the actress is showing no signs of any retirement plan in place. She is famous for such shows as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland, and others, while she was also on some famous game shows, like Password, The Hollywood, and Match Game.
JAMIE FARR, 85 YEARS OLD
Jamie Farr is best known for his portrayal of the character of the cross-dressing Corporal Maxwell Q. Klinger in the hit TV sitcom M*A*S*H, who was just waiting to be discharged from the Military for his silly antics.
What people didn’t know back then was that Farr actually served in the US Army for two years. After a long career in the entertainment business, Farr now hosts a travel feature of Radio called Travelin’ Farr, and is not usually seen at many red carpet or Hollywood events. He is now eighty-five, has a wive since 1963, and two kids.
ALI MACGRAW, 81 YEARS OLD

ANN BLYTH, 91 YEARS OLD
The face of the beautiful actress Ann Blyth has graced both the theater stage and the movie screen. Her most famous movie role was playing Veda Pierce Forrester in the movie Mildred Pierce, with the legendary Hollywood actress Joan Crawford playing her mother as the title role.

CHUCK NORRIS, 80 YEARS OLD
Fans of action movies surely know the name, Chuck Norris. The actor was one of the few ‘true’ action stars, in the sense that he really is a martial artist, holds a black belt in Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and served in the United States Air Force.
Norris is most known for films such as Way of the Dragon and The Delta Force, and the long-running TV series, Walker, Texas Ranger. Aside from acting, Norris is also a best-selling author, and now an internet star because of ‘Chuck Norris Facts’ and various memes circulating about him.
ANGELA LANSBURY, 94 YEARS OLD
When the live-action movie version of Beauty and the Beast came out, we all heard the movie’s theme song of the same title repeatedly on radio, social media, and on television. A lot of fans were surprised, though, when actress and singer Angela Lansbury came out of her retirement and took to the stage to give her rendition of the song again in her 90s!
She sang the original version of the song in the animated original film version of the movie, where she provided the voice of Mrs. Teapot. Aside from Beauty and the Beast, the iconic actress also starred in a lot of Hollywood movies, and who could forget the TV show Murder She Wrote?!
LANCE HENRIKSEN, 78 YEARS OLD
Not many people can say that they were working on a theatre set as a laborer one day and someone cast them in a play. But actor Lance Henriksen can certainly say so. From his humble start, he went on to act in many movies, usually in the sci-fi, horror and action genre. Some of his famous movies and TV shows include Close Encounters of the Third Kind, X-Files, Millennium, the Alien franchise and many more. He even became a pro at voicing video games and animated movies such as Tarzan. Even though Lance still acts in movies and guests on TV, to this day, he continues to pressure his passion in art, particularly by creating murals and clay work, which are on display and sale on his website.
KATEY SAGAL, 64 YEARS OLD
It’s no surprise for her family that Katey Sagal pursued singing and acting as a career, after all, she was born into a family with a director father and a singer-writer mother. MICHAEL CAINE, 85 YEARS OLD
Michael Caine’s acting career started in the 1950s, when he was only 20, through the theater production, The Stage. He was known as Michael White, the stage name he chose, since he was born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite Jr. However when he decided take his acting career a step further and went to London to become a television and film star, an actor with the same name already existed, which forced him to change it to Michael Caine (the new last name inspired by the film, The Caine Mutiny). Some of his most famous films are Alfie, Zulu, The Italian Job, and Educating Rita. There is no stopping Cain from continually pursuing his passion, and he’s still acting today, with his most latest films being Going in Style, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and then there’s his voice over in the critically acclaimed, Dunkirk.

We cannot blame Susan Sarandon for not being very active in the acting business these days, after all, she’s already won so many acting awards that sealed her status as one of Hollywood’s greatest actresses. Now, at the age of 50, Bell is far from retirement as she’s very active on the Hallmark channel and on the red carpet, although her recent sightings set off rumours of her undergoing plastic surgery.
JIMMY CARTER, 94 YEARS OLD
Jimmy Carter decided to serve his country with all his dedication. First, as a US Navy Officer working on submarines and then as the President of the nation. The charismatic 39th President of the United States of America did not bid adieu to a public life even after he left office and pursued his passion of serving people. He started Carter Centre in the 1960s to promote human rights and is still actively working with the charity Habitat for Humanity, even at the age of 94.
AL PACINO, 79 YEARS OLD
As soon as he appeared in his first lead role in the movie The Panic in Needle Park as a heroin addict, people already noticed how amazing an actor Al Pacino is. That was premonition of great things to come, proven true by his most defining role as Michael Corleone in The Godfather. His five decades in the acting business has produced some of the most memorable films and roles of all time in cinema, not to mention several awards and recognitions for his extraordinary method acting. Now 79 years old, Pacino still acts but very rarely. However, any screen appearance of his are always worth the watch.

Who would ever forget Pamela Barnes Ewing aka beloved actress Victoria Principal? Actress Tippi Hedren is prominent for starring the Alfred Hitchcock film, The Birds. Hedren’s retirement from acting was long ago, but she is still active in raising money for various charities, particularly ones about wildlife preservation. BILLY DEE WILLIAMS, 81 YEARS OLD
Actor Billy Dee Williams will forever be known to Star Wars fan as Lando Calrissian, a character that was first seen in The Empire Strikes Back when it was shown in 1980. Nonetheless, the actor is also a musician, and has released a jazz LP back in 1961 entitled, Let’s Misbehave; a renowned painter with his works displayed in different art galleries; and has starred in other films such as Mahogany, Brian’s Song, and 1989’s Batman. Williams is now 81 years, and he still continues to paint and act to this day – he will be seen next in Star Wars: Episode IX.
TINA LOUISE, 84 YEARS OLD
The most notable role ever portrayed by actress Tina Louise was that of Ginger Grant in Gilligan’s Island, no question about that. Years after Gilligan’s Island, Louise has remained active in the acting industry, with small appearances in TV and films every now and then. Nevertheless, she said ‘no’ to sequels and spin-offs of the famous Gilligan’s Island, unlike her other cast-mates who all have now passed away excluding Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann Summers in the show.
BOB NEWHART, 89 YEARS OLD
Comedian Bob Newhart is well-known for being the king of deadpan comedy, notorious for delivering lines while stammering. He appeared in a lot of television shows including The Bob Newhart Show, Newhart, and Bob among others. However, it is his comedic monologue albums that were the biggest hit of most of his endeavors. We are pretty sure Bob has medical insurance in place because he has suffered medical conditions brought about by his smoking habits in the past. Proper healthcare and rest should not be a problem for Bob now that he is retired.
JAMES DARREN, 82 YEARS OLD
Actor James Darren has had quite a career, he wasn’t just an actor, but a singer and director as well. JULIE GIBSON, 105 YEARS OLD
We have many older actors and actresses who are living legends… stars who have been entertaining us right from the black and white era of the movie industry. Sure they would be in their 80’s, 90’s and even 100’s by now, but none older than Hollywood sweetheart Julie Gibson who turned 105 in September of 2018. This golden era star was also a well known singer and happens to be the last remaining actress of the classic movie The Three Stooges. She went on to star in movies such as Bowery Buckaroos, Lucky Cowboy, Detective and Chick Carter. These days, not a lot is known about Julie, who has not been spotted by the public in decades. We just hope she’s hale and hearty and looking forward to turning 106 next year!
HONOR BLACKMAN, 93 YEARS OLD
The British actress Honor Blackman became prominent playing the role of Cathy Gale in the espionage British television series The Avengers. It was in that TV series that got the attention of casting agents for Goldfinger, so she was cast as a Bond Girl. Blackman is known for being skilled in martial arts, perhaps the reason why she is still going strong at 93 years old. Actress and dancer Caren Marsh-Doll has appeared in several Hollywood films, but she is well-known for being the dance double of Judy Garland in her films The Wizard of Oz and Ziegfeld Girl. At 98 years old, Doll is one of the few surviving actors of the silent film era, and one of two last surviving cast member of the The Wizard of Oz movie. Chuck Woolery’s name may be synonymous with game shows, but his career began as a singer. The host used to play the bass fiddle and sing with the The Bordermen. He eventually started his solo musical career, but with no luck at all, so Woolery turned to acting. Just like singing, however, Woolery did not ‘hit the jackpot’ in the acting industry, too. Nonetheless, it was his singing at the show, Your Hit Parade, that brought him his break in game show hosting, because someone who saw him, suggested that he host the long-running game show, Wheel of Fortune. Woolery hosted the show for six years, but a salary dispute led to his exit and Pat Sajak replaced him as host. Other game shows that Woolery hosted are Love Connection, Scrabble, Greed, and Lingo. Now 77, Woolery is sill a regular on radio shows and podcasts where he voices out his strong political views.
SUSAN DEY, 65 YEARS OLD
Susan Dey was only 17 years old when she appeared on the beloved TV show The Partridge Family. She played the role of the beautiful Laurie Partridge. Actress Lorraine Gary is often called the reclusive actress given that she had a very bright but short-lived career in Hollywood. Richard Anthony Marín is best known us as ‘Cheech’ from the comedic duo Cheech and Chong. Like many actors before and after him, Gil Gerard played small parts in television shows and films before getting that one big break. For Gerard, his big break came when he was cast as Captain William ‘Buck Rogers in the television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Years after the series ended, Gerard continued to appear in TV shows and films, but faced some health issues because of his weight. He decided to undergo a life-saving mini-gastric bypass surgery in 2005, which proved successful since he lost a total of 145 lbs less than a year after the procedure. James Drury is best remembered for his acting in Western themed movies and TV series. He is most famous for playing the titular role in the hit Western TV series The Virginian, that had a run on television for 9 years. The actor’s last appearances on TV were on Walker, Texas Ranger and The Adventures of Brisco County, during the mid 90s. Drury tried his luck on the oil and natural gas business after he retired from acting, and settled in Houston, Texas. Although actor Ed Ames is best known for his role as the Native American Mingo, on the popular TV series Daniel Boone, the music afficianados would also recognise him for his songs; My Cup Runneth Over, When the Snow is on the Roses and Who Will Answer? He started out by being in a band called the Ames Brothers, with his brothers and performed with them until they disbanded. Of course, to be featured in the magazine, she had to be famous and she happened to have earned her fame by being in the movie business. She started her career by acting as one of the ‘cover girls’ in the Rita Hayworth movie Cover Girl. She had also acted in movies such as Crime Doctor’s Warning and The Phantom Thief. She retired from the limelight shortly after she married her second husband, Hollywood director Jean Negulesco and chose not to have a public life after that.
RHONDA FLEMING, 95 YEARS OLD
Actress Rhonda Fleming appeared in around forty Hollywood films, and her big break came from the Alfred Hitchcock film, Spellbound. The actress is famous for being called “The Queen of Technicolor” because of her bright red hair and fair complexion that stands out when Technicolor was introduced in movies and TV. When the actress retired, she became very active in charity works, especially with healthcare and medical insurance. RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN, 84 YEARS OLD
Actor Richard Chamberlain’s rise to fame was through the NBC TV show Dr. Kildare, where he played the lead role of Dr. James Kildare, a young intern at the Blair General Hospital. Chamberlain’s success opened opportunities in theater, as well as films. Some of his most notable films are The Thorn Birds, King Solomon’s Mines, and The Bourne Identity (years before Matt Damon played the movies lead Jason Bourne). Chamberlain never hid the fact that he was gay, even starting a relationship with his Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold co-star, Martin Rabbett in 1977. But his being gay was revealed in 1989 in an article on the Nous Deux, a French magazine. The actor, in turn, admitted the fact that he’s gay through his autobiograpy, Shattered Love, in 2003.
VERA MILES, 89 YEARS OLD
Veteran actress Vera Miles is best known for her part in Alfred Hitchcock’s famous thriller movie Psycho, where she essayed the role of Lila Crane. She even starred in the subsequent version of the movie called Psycho II. Even though she struggled for 9 years in Hollywood, taking on bit roles and working as an extra to make ends meet, she never gave up dreaming the Hollywood dream. After the sucess of Psycho, she starred in other famous movies such as The Wrong Man and The Wild Country, among others. Ever since 1995, she has chosen to stop making any appearances and is not even seen in public, although she still communicates with her fans via letters and emails. When actress Jessica Biel, who was playing Miles in a Hitchcock biopic, wanted to meet with the screen legend, she refused and instead sent her grandson to meet Biel.

Actress Jeri Ryan starred in several films and television shows, but she’s best known for playing the borg, Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager. Who could forget the beautiful face of Katharine Ross? She starred in 3 of the most memorable Hollywood films of all time – The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Stepford Wives. BARBARA WINDSOR, 82 YEARS OLD
English actress Dame Barbara Windsor is a national treasure who is best known for her role in the soap opera EastEnders, as Ms. Peggy Mitchell) and also for her many Carry On films. Windsor also acted in plenty of roles in theatre, a place that gave her, her first start. She actually began her career as a 13-year-old on the stage, but her movie debut came in the year 1954 with The Belles of St Trinian’s. A couple of years later she earned her first BAFTA nomination for her role in the movie Sparrows Can’t Sing. As age caught up, she did more work on the radio as a presenter. Sadly, Barbara’s husband informed everyone that her Alzheimer’s had become worse over the years and that she couldn’t even recognize her own residence.
DIRK BENEDICT, 74 YEARS OLD
Dirk Niewoehner was a struggling actor, trying his luck on TV and in stage productions, before he changed his stage name to Benedict, reportedly inspired from a dish of Eggs Benedict he was having that morning! Dirk was able to effortlessly win over 2 sets of fans from different genres with his famous roles. He was loved by fans of the action-packed TV series, The A-Team, and then blew everybody’s mind as Lieutenant Starbuck in the Sci-fi film and TV series Battlestar Galactica. Even though age has caught up with him lately, and he is not that very active in the limelight, Dirk still has projects lined up in 2019. No retirement fund managers needed here!
GENE REYNOLDS, 95 YEARS OLD
When Gene Reynolds entered Hollywood as an actor in 1934, his career was short-lived because he was called to fight in the Second World War. ARLENE DAHL, 93 YEARS OLD
Film actress Arlene Dahl became popular in the 1950s, and one of her most notable film is Journey to the Center of the Earth – a film version of the classic book by Jules Verne. The actress ventured into a different career and opened up her own line of beauty products and designer lingerie with her company Dahl Enterprises. When that did not work out, she decided to work in an advertising company Kenyon and Eckhardt, which she left to work for beauty company Sears Roebuck. Dahl did not stop there, which may be the reason she ended up with a decent $6 million for her net worth.
