How does the casts of The Wizard today look like?

The Wizard

Do you remember the movie The Wizard? The movie is about a young boy named Corey. He and Jimmy, his half-brother, a video game savant travel from Utah to California with the help of a rough ‘n’ tumble girl named Haley. I believe that you remember the big moments: The climactic showdown at Video Armageddon. This gives the inspiration to the real-life Nintendo World Championships. Super Mario Bros. 3’s warp zone becomes the worst-kept secret in video game history when Jimmy finds the Warp Whistle. It is also known as the Power Glove scene.

Therefore, The Wizard is famous for fans of a certain age. However, there are more stories behind the success of the movie. Even though The Wizard is a B-level film, it has a decidedly A-list cast. Most actors in the movie were stars before attending this movie. Others are known as some of the biggest names in show business. The Wizard is a beloved movie although it may not a great movie. The following men and women are the big reason to explain it.

Maguire

Maguire

You may miss Blink although he just has a brief appearance in The Wizard. The Spider-Man doesn’t have any lines. Tobey Maguire — aka Peter Parker himself is an uncredited role in the film as one of Lucas’ goons due to his teeny tiny appears in the movie. He only appears when the Video Armageddon contestants disperse into Universal Studios and compete in a brand new game which is near the end of the film. Do you see the kids which wear a pink shirt? Can you believe that is him?

After the success of The Wizard, he defines himself in the film industry. He makes his name by stellar performances in films such as Pleasantville, Cider House Rules, and Wonder Boys. Finally, he becomes a bona fide movie star when he performances Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. He also takes a role in Brothers, The Great Gatsby, and Boss Baby after the success of Spider-Man trilogy. Especially, due to having a really, really good by all accounts, he is seen as an avid poker player. Although a small appearance in The Wizard, this is the first step for Maguire to reach his achievement today. Thanks to The Wizard, he is now on top of his career.

Lee Arenberg

Lee Arenberg

I believe that you cannot forget Lee Arenberg, an enthusiastic Video Armageddon employee who signs up for the people who attend The Wizard’s climactic Nintendo tournament. Although he just has a small role in the movie, he creates a huge impact on the film. Starting with The Wizard leads the success in Arenberg’s career. He has bit parts on shows such as ER, Charmed, and Scrubs over the years. He also performs as Charlie’s openly gay boss on Californication season 6. On Star Trek series, he performs as five different characters (including three outings as one of the scheming aliens, the Ferengi). Moreover, Arenberg is seen as a featured player. In addition, the half of Pirates of the Carribean’s comedic relief duo, in the series’ first three movies, he played Pintel, the “Hello, Poppet!”.

He is a star of Disney. However, he has denied a role in the fifth due to the producers do not want them as before. Furthermore, he plays one of Snow White’s seven dwarves – Grumpy on Once Upon a Time and he found his happiness with the film. Unlike other actors who work for a paycheck, for Arenberg, there are more than that. He thinks it is an honor when the audience connects with his product.

Sam McMurray

Sam McMurray

Do you remember this guy? Yes, that is Sam McMurray, who performs Wendy Phillips’ second husband or Jimmy’s step-dad in The Wizard. He owned over 150 credits to his name even though it isn’t a household name. Thus, maybe you have seen him somewhere or in something such as Raising Arizona or The Tracey Ullman Show from pre-Wizard projects. Or you can see him in Chandler’s boss on Friends, Samm Levine’s cool father on Freaks and Geeks, doctors on Breaking Bad, Doug and Deacon’s boss on King of Queens and The Sopranos. He takes the role of Roy Hess, the goofy best friend, on ABC’s Dinosaurs and a recurring guest spot in Disney’s Recess!

In addition, he also played various roles on The Boondocks. Therefore, even you have never seen his face, you also heard about his name. Moreover, on ABC’s Cristela that lasted for a season, McMurray was part of the main cast. Or, you can see him on The Fosters. As you can see he is too busty enough to remember The Wizard. He said that he doesn’t know what people talk about when they take a quote line from The Wizard. However, he admits that he used to have a good time when he attends The Wizard.

Wendy Phillips

Wendy Phillips

Due to borning into a show business family, Wendy Phillips has an opportunity to exposure with the performing very soon. Her parents drove her on a flatbed truck around California to perform for the farm workers. While Wendy Phillips’s father was an acclaimed stage actor, Jean Shelton, her mother was a founder of an acting school which produced stars such as Danny Glover. This school is also the place for Tommy Wiseau met Greg Sestero, his partner. When Phillips was just 23, followed her parents’ footsteps, she appeared in the TV movies One of Our Own and Death Be Not Proud. Thanks to films like Airplane II and Midnight Run, Warren Beatty’s Bugsy (she played as Esta Siegel) and the titular gangster’s wife, Phillips became a reliable character actor throughout the ’80s and early ’90s.

However, she ended up functioning as a backdoor pilot and went on to co-star in a spin-off called Promised Land in 1996 after she took the role of Claire Greene by an Angel in an episode of Touched. Promised Land is focused on a family that traveled the nation to help those in need. In 2001, she started to work at her mother’s acting school. She started teaching and picking up the slack due to being offered less interesting parts as she gets older. When she started her new job, she definitely loves it. She shared that with her 30years experience, she can communicate with her students and she thinks that acting can change their life.

Lucas

Lucas

You might familiar with Lucas, a hot-headed and cocky rival of Jimmy even though you have never seen The Wizard before. He is known as he became a proudly sports the Power Glove in The Wizard. In the film, the Power Glove is the coolest accessory with an inexpensive and unbroken mess. Also, he became well- known in The Wizard because of the line, “I love the Power Glove. It’s so bad”. Lucas played as the role of a young man named Jackey Vinson in The Wizard. However, this didn’t create a huge impact on his career. There are some reasons for that.

First of all, IMDb stated that by the time The Wizard hit theaters, Vinson didn’t do much acting. Moreover, Lucas just only appeared a handful of times in a Grand drama. The drama starred Pamela Reed, John Neville, Bonnie Hunt, and Michael McKeen. In addition, although he took part in Breaking the Rules, an early Jason Bateman vehicle, it just a small part. Also, he appeared on an episode of Law & Order. That is all the shows and films he joins at that time. Unluckily, he has his own spot on New York’s sex offenders list due to child molestation and was charged for 10 year of probation. In order to capitalize on his meme-found fame and to try to make up for past mistakes, he joined Twitter a few years. However, it seems not a good return. His account was deleted by now.

Beau Bridges

Beau Bridges

Even though Beau Bridges is not famous as Jeff, his younger brother, he is seen as a formidable actor. In fact, at the final scene in The Wizard which Jimmy let his twin remains to rest was written just in a night before filming. According to Luke Edwards and director Todd Holland, the only reason makes that scene work is based on Bridges’ performance. Before The Wizard came out, Bridges was famous already. In addition, Christian Slater and many of the film’s actors attend The Wizard to work with Bridges, according to Holland. Moreover, he loves to work with his family as he appeared on The Lloyd Bridges Show, father’s anthology series when he was young.

Also, he and his brother joined The Fabulous Baker Boys a couple of months which was seen as his most iconic performance before The Wizard came out. Or, he and Dylan, his son together attend a few episodes of The Outer Limits. Bridges also work well on his own either, of course. In fact, he has won 3 Emmy Awards and nominated for 16 of them. With a great narration of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, he has won a Grammy. Especially, he, his father and brother have received the Lone Sailor Award of the United States Coast Guard. The award for those who draw upon their Sea Service experience to become successful in their careers and lives.

Christian freakin’ Slater

Christian freakin' Slater

Have you ever wondered what Fred Savage’s protective older brother in The Wizard did after the film? If you know Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Heathers Pump Up the Volume, Broken Arrow, True Romance Interview with a Vampire and Mr. Robot, you might remember him. Yes, that’s him Christian freakin’ Slater. Even though it wasn’t an easy road, Slater’s became the biggest star compare to those who join The Wizard. To be more specific, there are numerous run-ins with the law related to him. For example, he has to spend a few days in jail due to drunk driving in 1989. To illustrate, when he tried to bring a gun on an airplane, he was arrested in 1994. To collaborate, after attacking his girlfriend and a couple of police officers, he was sent to prison and rehab facility for 6 months.

However, his career seems not to be affected. In fact, he racks up nominations and awards again. In addition, recently, he tried a new aspect which is voice acting. Moreover, he joins Archer spy comedy with a role as a satirical version of himself. Furthermore, he joined on episodes of Rick & Morty and Jeff and Some Aliens with a role as guest-starred. Good news, he is now trying to stay drug – and alcohol – free.

Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis

You might not know Jenny Lewis with a role of an actor but I’m sure that you have heard her voice. Lewis and some friends started to form Rilo Kelly in 1998. They created history when they released the first album, Take Offs and Landings in 2001. Yes, she was a rock star. She joined The Wizard with the role of 13-year-old hustler Haley. Also, she attended to television shows and in movies such as Troop Beverly Hills. Even though she started to work in show business when she was 3, it seems not her passion. Therefore, she moved forward to the new aspect which is music. And she never regretted about the decision.

Today, there is no Rilo Kelly anymore. In 2011, the rumors about the demission of the band started circling. Thus, Lewis started to work alone and became a formidable solo act. In addition, she dropped The Voyager and “Just One of the Guys”, a music video that she directed. The video is about Lewis, Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, and Brie Larson wearing tracksuits and fake mustaches which attracted about one million views in the first 24 hours online.

Luke Edwards

Luke Edwards

The actor that you may remember most in The Wizard is Luke Edwards. Even though he did not say much, he still created a huge impact on the film. Although he put in a remarkably nuanced performance when he just nine-year-old, he still not become a big star at that time. In 1994, he joined Little Big League with a role of 12-year-old manager of the Minnesota Twins. That is a good sign for his further career. He returned to Minneapolis for the 20th anniversary of the film in 2014. He said he is a fan of San Francisco Giants and the Twins is just number 2.

Edwards has never forgotten his past although he has spent his time to post-Wizard career acting as American Pie 2 and True Detective. According to Nintendo Life, Edwards does not only play video games but also being called as “The Wizard”. The reason for that can be explained that Edwards can pick up, play and win the game that he has never tried before.

Fred Savage

Fred Savage

Fred Savage was a star before he joined The Wizard. It about 2 years before The Wizard debuted, ABC launched a coming-of-age dramedy set in the late ’60s, The Wonder Years. After only six episodes had aired, it became a hit and won the Emmy reward for the best comedy series. As a result, Savage became a famous star almost instantly due to a hit of the movie. Unluckily, the famous of Savage leads The Wizard a difficult. In fact, when the cameras were rolling (it’s about 5 weeks after Todd Holland, director landed the gig), they struggled due to Savage’s TV schedule, etc. Or, people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the new star during the filming.

Savage stayed on The Wonder Years for six season run and spent the next few years as guest appearances. However, he made a comeback recently. Savage joins Netflix’s Friends from College. Also, he has a Critic’s Choice Award nomination for The Grinder. Child Support alongside Ricky Gervais is hosted by him. Also, episodes of Disney Channel shows such as the Wizards of Waverly Place and Phil of the Future are directed by Savage. However, there were multiple times he has been accused of on-set harassment.
