The new American Idol, 5 best and 5 worst things
What was the most favorite television show you have liked since you were a little boy or girl? It is so amazing that the memories in the past will recall in some channels these days. The biggest new thing in television over the past few years has been bringing old things back to television. Do you have any interests with popular programs during in the 1990s or 2000s? It seems like every show that was so trendy in the 1990s or 2000s has returned to TV in the late 2010s. Each of them is gaining popularity and great critical acclaim. There are some typical shows such as Twin Peaks, Roseanne, The X-Files, Will & Grace, MacGyver, Full House, and Gilmore Girls. It is a return of American Idol.
Do you know it known as one of the most successful reality shows of all time? I’m sure you have great knowledge of it. It considered A TV, music, and cultural phenomenon. American Idol set on Fox from 2002 to 2016. Now, it’s coming back in a new way. But the broadcaster has revamped the show with a new panel of celebrity judges. Yes, the disappearance of American Idol during two whole years actually makes us worry. But currently, the lure of nostalgia entrapped ABC network executives.
Music makes people closer and closer. Moreover, we are in tunes of sound as if we got lost in wonderland. We are, of course, fascinated about the world’s best-televised singing competition coming back to TV. Also, we are curious at the prospect of another Kelly Clarkson or Lee DeWyze. Still, we take a little concerned about all around this show. Obviously, the world has quickly changed since American Idol’s heyday. And new people are responsible for everything of the show. The audiences must be curious. That means change is coming in the next day or not at all.
Let’s take a look! Here are the best and worst parts of the American Idol renew. According to your friends at Nicki Swift, there would be many interesting things.
Good: The judges were a good call
American Idol was certainly a TV juggernaut for a long time. The rewards for the last years releasing on television expresses its popularity. It was the most-watched show on television among younger viewers and supports. It was an astounding seven years for producers, sponsors, and broadcasters. Thus, it’s easy to forget its humble origins.
There are some recalls for the first season of American Idol. But, the rating of it was not feasible – a low key reality performance. The final results gave us the winners. Those were Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini (aka Lil’ Sweet). The reality show debuted on Fox in 2002 during the TV doldrums of summer. That was so long before the judge altered. It could pull in super-famous judges. Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez are those. The panel included two obscure dudes and one washed-up pop star now. First, Simon Cowell was a black T-shirt-wearing British TV and music producer. But, who cares?
Randy Jackson was an industry veteran. A few people knew her as the best the former bass player for Journey. Oh, really? Maybe, some of her fans knew it. In addition, Paula Abdul hadn’t had a hit in years. After that, the show released a new video. But that video with the pretty cat was enough to cool, huh? Of course, their stature increased in each night as the show became more popular. Yet, for the 2018 go-around, American Idol booked three well-known. The relevant judges right off the bat.
Katy Perry is taking a break from becoming one of the biggest pop stars in the world for American Idol. Luke Bryan is a country music superstar. And who sits in the Randy Jackson Chair for industry veterans? This is legendary hitmaker, Lionel Richie.
Bad: Where’s Simon?
Kelly Clarkson. Carrie Underwood. Ryan Seacrest. Adam Lambert. American Idol produced a lot of everlasting celebrities (and Sanjaya) during its time. But let’s be honest! Who gains the reputation from the game show? It was so simple answer to this question. Simon Cowell was the only person who got the most famous because of American Idol.
The three Idol judges quickly fell into their roles in the chairs. Randy Jackson was a constructive critic. Paula Abdul was a supportive critic. Then Cowell was the entertainingly mean critic. Cowell was cruel. Cowell was catty. Still just darn it if he wasn’t always extremely correct in each his comments. His advice about technique and presentation was so great just as viable as Jackson’s. He’ however, delivered it with an acidic and hyperbolic tongue. Cowell simply knew made for great TV and brought in revenue or profits.
After all, if a viewer at home got so offended by Cowell, he or she dared to criticize. About Jennifer Hudson, he said viewer could reach for their phone. As well as he or she was willing to text a vote to keep Hudson in the competition. Cowell got so famous that he left the show to do many things in new. That meant he planned to make shows very similar to American Idol, like America’s Got Talent and The X-Factor.
Nevertheless, it is so regrettable. The new Idol doesn’t have Cowell or Cowell comments. All of the judges are generally perfect and supportive. That’s all well and good enough for the contestants. But it is so disappointing and boring for viewers and audiences.
Good: Katy Perry is delightful
Stars are the people of the public. There’s anything wrong with being serious and artsy with many problems around. But in the major of female pop stars of the moment — a group is the only one with a sense of humor. That includes Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, Katy Perry. Her work is often quite funny. She sinks herself in comfort and applies for doing work. Her videos for “Last Friday Night (TGIF),” “Swish Swish,” and “California Gurls,” are all over-the-top mini-comedy movies ever. Additionally, she’s done solid guest-star work multiple times. The viewers and fans had already met her on Saturday Night Live.
Does the script play an important role? Let’s see! Without the direction of a script, Perry is charming and even goofy on talk shows. The situation makes her so special and different. And that fast with people serves her very well on American Idol. Perry has talked on the de facto Paula Abdul about her role of “nice judge”. Perry was very so high during the audition phase of the competition. According to Variety, she demonstrates an ability and capability to soothe the contestants. She also even flirts with them a little. In that way, she appears to put them easily and closely.
For instance, when someone guy tries out by singing an old Frank Sinatra tune, Perry gets up and slow dances with him. It was such an impressive way that she became closer and friendly than anyone. Furthermore, she’s got an authenticity and sense of fun. The success of the game show still depends on her way. It makes for enjoyable, easy-going television.
Bad: The Seacrest stain
There is only one member of the original American Idol team back for the revival. And so, unfortunately, it isn’t Brian Dunkleman. It’s Ryan Seacrest. The longtime Idol host will provide with both a familiar face and a link back to O.G. Idol. Oh. It is quite boring, let’s talk about bad timing. Are there many fans and viewers hearing about this person? Ryan Seacrest is one of the most unpopular and villainous people in Hollywood and fans’memory right now.
Seacrest also works at E!. He also was the last fall a former E! A stylist named Suzie Hardy who accused him of numerous, aggressive acts of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct. An E! internal investigation cleared Seacrest. They still cited a lack of evidence. In spite of a call from Me Too founder Tarana Burke for Seacrest to step aside, he kept his prominent spot on the Oscars red carpet in March 2018. It seemed nothing could affect him. Many celebrities went out of their way because they want to avoid talking to him. Seacrest remains on board. And he was confident for the host and public face of American Idol, too. He neglected his involvement is a potential PR nightmare.
Good: There won’t be a new William Hung
Have you ever wondered what the boring parts in this show were, but still got fun? The audition episodes were the most tedious parts of the original American Idol after all. It was fun to get a glimpse at future contestants and potential winners exhibiting raw talent those episodes also included far too many “bad auditions” if you had a chance to listen to it.
Time after time, the development of technology has advanced. A wacky is a comical sound effect. It would alert viewers that the person about to sing had no talent. Then the person with no talent would butcher “I Will Always Love You”. What happened next? The judges and viewers would cringe and suffered embarrassment. Actually, there is something we were not clear. Some of the contestants probably had the aim to be terrible on purpose. There’s no such thing as bad publicity, right? The case of William Hung was a point. But most of him seemed completely oblivious. Their own lack of musical ability was so terrible. And that created much second-hand embarrassment for all viewers and judges.
As if inspired by the anti-bullying movement, the new American Idol will show the audition process for the public. But it will downplay the bad singers. Executive producer Trish Kinane told the New York Post what one of the key things about the show was? It is the feeling of not manipulated or fake. The time of 15 years was not long or short. Similarly, nobody had ever seen it and it was so funny. Viewers know now. They’ve all watched all these shows throughout 15 years, and it didn’t feel comfortable to put borderline unstable people up. And there was no way laughing at them.
Bad: And now, several words from our sponsor
The common and the popularity of American Idol were insanely interesting. That meant Fox could demand a lot of money from sponsors and companies. In addition to ads, the show secured a product placement deal with soft drink corporation Coca-Cola. The reason shows below. That is why those red Coke cups were always prominently featured in front of the show’s judges. Coca-Cola pulled out of the deal in 2014. Surprisingly, they won’t be back for the reboot next time. But the show does not mean going to load up. And it still has a deal with advertisements for commercial breaks.
Both Macy’s and Johnson & Johnson have reportedly received the amount of money more than a million bucks each for “broader affiliation” with the show when it airs on ABC. It means in-show pitches for department stores and allergy medication. The network has to get more money than ever. It’s paying Katy Perry a whopping $25 million salary. In addition, Ryan Seacrest is pulling in around $15 million.
American Idol is now on ABC. But part of the Disney entertainment empire, viewers can expect plenty of tie-ins with the House of Mouse. For example, Mickey and Minnie Mouse appear in the very first episode on television. A surreptitious and ad for Disney theme parks are free.
Good: A commitment to a variety of musical styles
The millennium-era American Idol needed to wake. Most every other network tried to launch its own series featuring an unknown singers signed for more a record deal. Those were for fortune and fame. American Idol needed to simply rip off, too. American Idol would have been far too transparent. And the reason that most of these shows offered a twist on the original formula. For example, VH1’s But Can They Sing? was a singing contest for B-list celebrities. Fox’s own The Next Great American Band and they were American Idol for bands. Bravo’s Platinum Hit wanted singers. Those wrote their own stuff.
By far American Idol was the most successful and long-lasting show. Johnny-come-lately is NBC’s The Voice. The format of The Voice allows for participants of many different genres of music. While American Idol focused squarely on pop. It was with a hint of country or R&B, on occasion. The Voice panel of judge-coaches has always charged of the worlds of country (Blake Shelton), rock (Adam Levine), pop (Christina Aguilera), and R&B (Alicia Keys).
A good artist steals. And the new American Idol artistically does same from The Voice. It is ironic. The Voice only made it to TV thanks to American Idol. They also recognized some new thing. That there is popular music beyond top 40 radio hits during its time. The Idol revival has carefully selected judges. They depended on them for their future. They tried to represent expertise across genres. Each judge takes private roles. Katy Perry takes responsibility it down for pop. Luke Bryan is in charge of the country flavor, and Lionel Richie can handle and hold the soul, R&B, and even funk. Because he was in the Commodores for after all.
Bad: Sunday nights do not fit for Idol
What did you do on Sunday? What would you like to watch on television each Sunday? And how long did you spend time in front of the screen? It is almost the entirety of its 15-year run on Fox, there is a question for the reality show. How important was American Idol? Time for American Idol was a mid-week tradition for millions of Americans. It did not count special episodes. Performance episodes aired on Tuesday nights regularly. And then everybody went to work to talk about their favorite released time. They mostly liked on Wednesday morning. Because the results show revealed the fates of contestants on the Wednesday night results show. As a result, ABC is messing with that successful formula.
The changes in programs throughout the week have made large effects. Since the network already has successful blocks of sitcoms on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The reboot will air a performance show on Sunday. And the results for the show will come in on a Monday night broadcast. What’s so bad about that?
There are many channels on television now. Also, there’s already way too much TV to watch on those nights. Sunday is the off day for work, for study. Moreover, Sunday is a showcase night when many TV networks present their biggest shows. AMC airs. The Walking Dead as well as on Sundays. HBO released nearly all its prestigious series on Sundays. And then there’s Fox’s block of The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Family Guy. Viewers have to choose among too many options of entertainment shows. And many of them are so various. The things have to watch live or as soon as possible to avoid spoilers or deleting. American Idol is one of those shows. It just complicates everything. As far as Mondays concern, American Idol, of course, wants to succeed. It goes head-to-head with its talent show successor/clone, NBC’s The Voice.
Good: Age isn’t nothing but a number (singing-wise)
On the old American Idol for many years ago, it seemed like every contestant was so young. And they were from somewhere. Also, they were at the age between 18 and 22. Generally, they were wholesome, telegenic. Furthermore, most importantly, they were ready to exploited by the music industry. Because they didn’t know any better. There was a notable exception in the show. Taylor Hicks won American Idol in 2005. She was just shy of his 29th birthday.
What the age did American Idol follow? American Idol typically went for the youthful contestants. And youthful viewers were the main force for voting and selection. They voted for those youthful singers. But this may make as a surprise to some of you. Wow, it was old. Older people can and do sing quite well. American Idol did attempt to deepen its talent pool on more than one occasion during the season. In Season 5, they started to form extra rules. The producers upped the age limit to 28.
Five years later, the show had a stricter rule than the past. The game show allowed singers as young as 15 to compete. They posted it in publish and take both of those things to heart. The producers of the new American Idol announced the limited age for participating. The competition has a very simple rule. It’s open to singers 15 years of age or older and there is no upper limit.
The judge Lionel Richie announced on a November 2017 episode of Dancing with the Stars. And he demonstrates a commitment to that concept. After that, the first American Idol finalist chosen was Britney Holmes. She is a 28-year-old vocal coach.
Bad: It’s all in the timing
Fox creates a good thing going with American Idol. And at its peak, the network knew that people would watch every episode regularly each night. As a result, episodes were long. Some performance shows could last for two hours. That makes both contestants and judges tired. And then the next night, the results show would come back with folks. Even though all really needs to happen on the latter, the host saying the name of the eliminated contestant. That takes literally three seconds. But sucking up nearly 30 to 60 minutes of prime-time television. Or, it takes more time in the case of the season finales, two entire hours or more.
Do many people guess whether they change the time? Unfortunately, the reboot of American Idol will keep up this time control. ABC is so convinced that the second American Idol is going to succeed. And that it has allocated a huge chunk of its prime-time schedule to the talent competition. Viewers can watch up or spend to four hours a week of Idol. These four hours come in the form of the performance show on Sunday night. And the rest will be the Monday night results show. Yes, the results show will be madness, excessive, and unnecessary two hours long.
That’s foolhardy. Don’t they know viewers today pay less attention to spans? Maybe, the viewers can get bored. If an episode of American Idol doesn’t fit time, viewers will change the channel. They will turn on Netflix or mess around on their phones.
